General Requirements
Students who plan to graduate from Collin College should request a degree plan prior to the completion of 30 credit hours. Students must be currently admitted to Collin College to request a degree plan. Students may graduate under any of the College’s catalogs from the preceding five years as long as they were enrolled under that catalog; however, students may benefit from graduating under the requirements of the most recent catalog.
Degrees and Certificates
Degrees and certificates that have been deactivated by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) must be completed within three years of the date the program ended.
A student who completes specific course requirements for a degree or certificate with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is a candidate for graduation. Any student who entered Collin College prior to Fall 2008 and had transfer coursework transcripted will have those transfer course grade points included in their Collin College grade point average.
Applying for Graduation
Students should Apply for Program Completion after registering in their final courses in the semester they plan to graduate. Students can Apply for Program Completion through their Workday Student Account once registration becomes available for that final semester. Once submitted the student will receive a confirmation email within 1 business day. Once the application is reviewed, students will receive an email regarding their status and next steps. The review process can take several weeks, but students who adhere to the deadlines below (see Important Dates) and are approved for Program Completion will receive an email with details on how to RSVP for the Commencement Ceremony by November 30 (Fall Graduation) and April 30 (Spring Graudation). The last day to Apply for Program Completion is the last day of the term, however students who wish to particpate in the Commencement Ceremony are encrouaged to meet the deadlines below:
Fall Commencement Ceremony Important Dates:
October 15 - Deadline to Apply for Program Completion and be included in the printed commencement program. Graduates who miss the deadline, will still be included in the digital program and can participate in Commencement.
December 1 - Deadline to RSVP and receive advanced ticket access for up to 4 guests to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Graduates who miss the deadline to RSVP can still participate in Commencement, however they will not have access to advanced tickets. Guest tickets may be available the day of the cermony at event center Will Call Box Office. Note: Ony students who have Applied for Program Completion will receive an invitation to RSVP.
Spring Commencement Ceremony Important Dates:
February 15 - Deadline to Apply for Program Completion to guarentee name will be included in the printed program. Graduates who miss the Fall/Spring deadline, will still be included in the digital program and can participate in Commencement.
May 1 - Deadline to RSVP and receive advanced ticket access for up to 4 guests to attend the Commencement Ceremony. Graduates who miss the deadline to RSVP can still participate in Commencement, however they will not have access to advanced tickets. Guest tickets may be available the day of the cermony at event center Will Call Box Office. Note: Ony students who have Applied for Program Completion will receive an invitation to RSVP.
Students participating in commencement ceremonies must purchase graduation regalia (cap and gown) from the college bookstore.
Graduating with Honors
Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Technology degree honors will be awarded to students with the following cumulative grade point average at Collin College:
4.0 | Summa Cum Laude |
3.75-3.99 | Magna Cum Laude |
3.5-3.74 | Cum Laude |
Honors are calculated using all Collin College college-level coursework and transcripted transfer coursework prior to Fall 2008. (Grades earned in developmental education courses are not included.)
Degrees
Students may earn the following degrees:
- Associate of Arts or Associate of Science*
- Associate of Arts in Teaching
- Associate of Arts or Science in a Field of Study*
- Associate of Applied Science and Certificates
- Bachelor of Applied Technology
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
To graduate, students must complete a minimum of 25% required courses in residence
at Collin College for any certificates, associates or bachelor degrees, and must satisfy
all other program requirements. Non-traditional and developmental course credit does
not meet these residency requirements.
*Students may not earn both an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science degree and instead must choose only one.
